Basics

Film: Jumper

Protagonist: David, a white 23 year old boy that can teleport himself everywhere (called a Jumper)

Antagonist: Roland, a black man that’s around 40/50 years old who haunts Jumpers (called a Paladin)

Conflict

David has a gift; he can teleport to any place he wants. However, he is hunted by Roland, a Paladin (person who hunts these so-called Jumpers). In his pursuit, Roland kills David's father and then goes after his girlfriend Millie. To save his girlfriend he has to stop Roland. For this he has to make difficult decisions; play cards with Millie and bring her to safety by taking her to a secret place (where she is not allowed to come). To stop Roland, he not only has to put his own life but also the lives of others at risk.

Logline

A boy of 15 years old discovers he has the skill to teleport to whatever place he wants, 8 years later he discovers that someone is haunting him because of that. No he not only has to safe himself but also his loved ones.

Premise

David Rice is a high school student, abandoned by his mother at five, living with his alcoholic father. David is in love with Millie, a fellow student, and picked on by at least one classmate. On a winter's day, while about to drown, he discovers he can transport himself instantaneously to anyplace on earth. This changes his life and a journey follows in which he has to learn a lot about love, honesty and courage.

Character arch

David transforms from a shy 15-year-old boy who is regularly bullied into an independent, somewhat arrogant 23-year-old boy. All this because during one incident, in which he almost dies, he discovers that he can teleport. By using his gift he lives on his own in a big apartment within 8 years. He is reckless and has no regrets about the money he steals from the banks in between this time. He does what he wants and doesn't use his power to benefit other people but himself. This changes when Roland (a kind of bounty hunter) manages to find him and tries to kill him. Suddenly you see another side of David, he runs of and finally lets his heart speak; he makes contact with his childhood sweetheart Millie and then risks his (and other people's) life several times to save her from the hands of Roland. In the end you see a boy that lost alot on the way (like his father) but was brave and loving enough to safe his girlfriend.
