SCENE 01

INT. ICE RINK - DAY

THE GIRL sits on a bench at the side of the ice rink while putting on her skates – wearing a training uniform. She pulls her hair in a ponytail and sighs as she plays with her necklace before putting on her gloves and zipping up her jacket. She gets up and walks over to the rink. She stops to take off her guards and looks back over her shoulder. She reaches for her necklace again and her GHOST FRIEND skates towards her from the ice.

GIRL - 01

‘You came.’ (‘Je bent gekomen.’)

GHOST FRIEND - 02

‘Of course. I’m always by your side.’ (‘Natuurlijk. Ik ben er voor je.’)

THE GIRL smiles and GHOST FRIEND pulls her onto the ice. The two of them start training.

SCENE 02

INT. ICE RINK - DAY

THE GIRL and GHOST FRIEND are skating to the entree, when a MEAN GIRL makes a snarky comment at THE GIRL.

MEAN GIRL - 03
‘Creep.’ ('Griezel.')

THE GIRL is taken aback by the comment and looks down. GHOST FRIEND places a hand on her shoulder and gestures to go.

GHOST FRIEND - 04
‘Don’t listen to her.’ (‘Let niet op haar.’)

They continue they’re training and ignore the MEAN GIRL. She looks nervous and tries to do a spin, but slips up. She immediately looks around for her GHOST FRIEND, but can’t find her. She touches her necklace and then GHOST FRIEND appears, reaching out her hand.

GHOST FRIEND - 05

‘It’s alright. You’re doing great.’ (‘Het is oke. Je doet het goed.’)

THE GIRL looks unsure and sees the MEAN GIRL watching her from across the ice. She slaps the other’s hand away and stands up by herself. GHOST FRIEND is surprised and disappears.

THE GIRL - 06

‘Wait! I’m sorry! Come back! I need you!’ (‘Wacht! Het spijt me! Kom terug! Ik heb je nodig!’)

THE GIRL looks back around anxiously, rubbing her necklace between her thumbs, but nothing happens. GHOST FRIEND is gone.

SCENE 3

INT. DRESSING ROOM – DAY

THE GIRL sits in the dressing room – wearing a performance outfit. She grabs her phone from her pocket and clicks to open the lock screen. A picture of her and GHOST FRIEND is shown and she slumps down on the bench.

THE GIRL - 07

‘I miss you.’ (‘Ik mis je.’)

She wipes away a tear. Then her name gets called over the intercom and she gets up. She leaves the dressing room and walks to the kiss n’ cry. She meets MEAN GIRL midways.

MEAN GIRL - 08

‘Break a leg. Literally.’ (‘Breek een been. Letterlijk.’)

THE GIRL doesn’t respond, but looks nervous after what was said. She glides over to the center of the ice and touches her necklace. She breathes in and out. She looks around to see if GHOST FRIEND is there to support her, but doesn’t see her anywhere. Her face shows regret. Then the music starts and she begins her performance. She’s still nervous and messes up her steps again. Once she enters her first pirouette we see a flashback.

SCENE 4

INT. ICE RINK - DAY + FLASHBACK

GHOST FRIEND is skating with her and cheering her on - smiling at her. We see her speak, but we don’t hear the words she says until the final sentence.

GHOST FRIEND - 09

‘See, you don’t need my help.’ (‘Zie je nou wel dat je het kan.’)

THE GIRL leaves the pirouette with new found energy and finishes her performance successfully and without any more mistakes. In her final pose she sees GHOST FRIEND applaud her from across the ice rink and fade away. She holds her necklace to her chest and smiles, and the screen cuts to black.
